In 2010, Steve Jobs enthusiastically introduced the iPad as the third device category slotted in between the smartphone and the laptop. 7 years and almost every iPad later, I reluctantly declare that he was wrong, at least at first. These are the things the iPad had to do better...

It seems to be a universal truth among tech pundits that 2016 was a bad year. 2017 is now upon us. And it is time to turn the page. What tech do you anticipate purchasing this year? What old things do you need to replace? And what new things excite you?

I know that this may seem like a strange pairing at first. But these two premium products have at least one thing in common: I have wanted them both since the summer. They were both delayed. (I guess that’s two things.) And I now have both to review. But in this arena, only one will remain standing. Hint: this one’s not going to make it all 15 rounds...

It has been a long time since Apple has released a product as polarizing as the new MacBook Pros. It has also been a while since the traditional Apple customer base has been so angry with Apple because of product direction...

There is a lot of angst among Mac pundits these days. Last month it was because the MacBook Pro hadn’t been updated in quite a while. Today, it is because the MacBook Pro just got an update. Depending on what signals you are getting, the latter situation might actually be worse.

The outcry is the same after the release as before: Apple has abandoned the pros. Have they? The answer is more complicated than a simple yes or no. Apple has certainly made a lot of changes to the product line. The breezy answer is that they have made a new kind of MacBook for a new kind of pro. Bear with me while I unpack what that means:

My wife is now the proud owner of my iPad Pro. And she couldn’t be happier. As of Saturday: two days after the MacBook announcement, I have officially gone back to the Mac. Here’s why:

Apple has announced another special event for October 27, 2016. That is 4 days from the time of this writing. According to the latest from Engadget, [Apple’s October 27th event is all about laptops]. That will not stop people from wildly speculating about a major refresh of the entire Mac lineup.

Allow me a moment to lay bare my biases. I am a diehard, Apple fanboy. Sometimes, we have no idea why we have the allegiances we do. When I was a kid, I found myself in a line of some sort. Some people were handing out posters for reasons I can’t recall.

Each kid received a poster of either Magic Johnson, or Larry Bird. I knew who Magic Johnson was, But I had never heard of Larry Bird. I got Larry. And from that moment to this day, I am a Larry Bird and Boston Celtics fan.

I have no idea why I have most of the preferences I do. But I know exactly why I am an Apple fanboy. Without recounting my entire computing history, I will just say that it is now, and always has been about accessibility.

While this is not a review of the new nylon bands for the Apple Watch, it is a good time to let you know that the bands are very nice additions to a growing Apple Watch band collection. There are a number of colors. The aesthetic will not suit everyone. But once you see them in person, you are sure to find at least one that floats your boat. They feel great to the touch. You can hardly tell it is on your wrist. Anyone with allergies to the flouroelastimer bands now has a great option from Apple for the same price.

Bigger is not always better. And one size really doesn't fit all. I believe Apple was tossing around all of these cliches when they came up with the iPad Pro 9.7. I don't believe it is a reaction to iPad Pro sales. Even remix products take time to develop and execute.
