So far, the hottest item for the holiday season is shaping up to be the new, iPad Air. I wrote a story earlier today about how the iPad Air was burning up the adoption rate based on usage. Now, AT&T seems to be confirming the popularity of the Air based on activations of the LTE model for its network.
AT&T said Monday that it saw a strong increase in iPad business with the launch of the iPad Air, with activations more than triple those from last year’s launch weekend.
“iPad activations on AT&T increased more than 200% over the past three days compared to last year’s launch weekend, driven by consumer excitement around the new iPad Air and the popularity of AT&T Mobile Share, which lets customers add an iPad to their existing data plan for just $10 a month,” AT&T said in a statement.
After getting clarification, AllThingsD confirmed that AT&T got three times the activations as they did this time last year. That is three times the fourth generation and mini combined! As I said before, this thing is going to be big.
