Samsung and that selfish selfie: this is why we can't have nice things

Give a group of kids a little freedom, and someone is going to ruin it for everyone. Samsung is that kid. Remember that piece I wrote last week about the presidential selfie from a Samsung device? The search continues for an unpaid Samsung fan I ended it by wondering if the president was a willing participant in a Samsung promotion or an unwilling dupe. Well we have the answer. The president was an unwilling dupe, and the White House is mulling legal action over it. From The Verge:

White House teases 'the end of all selfies' after Samsung stunt

The White House is not happy about David Ortiz's Samsung selfie, but it hasn't lost its sense of humor. "Perhaps maybe this will be the end of all selfies," senior adviser Dan Pfeiffer joked on Sunday. The White House has a strict policy against using the president's likeness for profit, and reportedly warned Samsung about the policy in advance, but it's still unclear what repercussions the company might face over the ill-fated tweet. "We’ve had conversations with Samsung about this and expressed our concerns," White House adviser Dan Pfeiffer told reporters. "We’ve left that conversation between the lawyers."

Right about now, David Ortiz is probably rethinking his contract with Samsung. And the president is definitely rethinking his policy of allowing himself to be photographed with people. This is what happens when you deal with a slimy company like Samsung. As the saying goes, "If you lie down with dogs, you wake up with fleas."
