Lies, Damned Lies, and Mac Pro Factories
I don’t often delve into politics. I write about tech and the impact it can have on our lives. However, politics has inserted itself into tech, and Apple in particular. So I will try to be brief and just point out the obvious to those who follow this stuff.
A few days ago, Trump visited the factory where the new Mac Pros are being made. He said the following:
Today I opened a major Apple Manufacturing plant in Texas that will bring high paying jobs back to America….
The only problem is that not a word of it is true. Honestly, not a single word. This will not even be the first Mac Pro Apple produced from this factory. The first one rolled out in 2013. That was under Obama. After 6 years of Mac Pros being churned out at that factory, Trump comes along and claims to be responsible for launching the factory days ago.
To make this somewhat on the topic of my beat, I would just say that this is how a lot of Apple news goes. People can make fortunes off the momentary upturn or downturn of Apple stock. It can be manipulated by blatantly false statements. It does not matter that the statements have no relationship with reality. Choose your sources for Apple news carefully. Hint: not Donald Trump.
